3 Signs You Need to See a BMW Service Technician
Posted November 17, 2023
BMW is one of the world’s oldest and best automakers whose vehicles are admired for their luxury, engineering, and build quality. As great as they are, even BMW models need regular maintenance and occasional repairs. According to IBIS World, the United States had 283,315 automotive maintenance and repair facilities in 2023, which was 1.3 percent more than in 2022. Several are BMW automotive facilities, and here are three signs that you should take your car in for BMW service.
1. Engine Idles Roughly
Your BMW should accelerate smoothly and idle flawlessly while you are stopped at a streetlight or for any other reason. If the engine has fouled spark plugs or bad coils, it won’t run right, or you might need a new serpentine belt, timing belt, or maybe an alternator belt. Fuel injectors, the air filter, and other items all affect how well the engine idles and runs. A rough idle likely means a tune-up service is needed and could cause the check engine light to appear, but there might be other issues.
2. Metallic Sounds While Braking
It’s easy to forget about the brakes until they go bad and start making loud metallic sounds when you use the brakes. The disc brakes use brake pads that press against steel rotors on each wheel to slow down your BMW and enable you to stop safely. When the friction material on the pads wears out, the metal rivets holding the pads, and eventually the backing plates will start scratching and gouging the rotor and make loud and unsettling sounds. Your BMW service can fix this.
3. Vehicle Pulls to One Side
The suspension systems on all vehicles can take a lot of abuse, but they eventually wear out. Driving over speed bumps, potholes, and curbs can accelerate the wear and tear on the suspension and wheels and cause your vehicle to pull to one side. The problem could be worn ball joints, tie rod ends, or misaligned wheels that need an alignment service. Your BMW also might need struts, shocks, or springs to resume its normal tracking and smooth ride characteristics.
