Seeking a more wholesome family life, Jim Blanchette (our founder) departs Hamilton Standard as a mechanical engineer, pursuing his passion with automobiles, working out of his home garage at first.

Jim founds and opens Tariffville Auto Repair (TAR), on Main Street in Tariffville, CT.

Foreign Car Cure (FCC),  a well established & respected local business on Herman Drive in Simsbury, is purchased by Jim from its long-time owner, and TAR merges into FCC.

Rebranding

Rebranding

One of Jim’s best friends, an architect, develops a board game in an effort to revamp the company’s image, and the new name is selected though this playful contest, Auto-Bon. Bon – meaning good in French. This was not only an affirmation for the company translating to “good auto”, but also a play-on-words for German’s Autobahn, due to the vehicles we service.

A property is acquired on Wolcott Road, the future home of Auto-Bon.

In a continuous effort to maintaining our facility, we replaced our existing roof with a 40 year rubberized roof system, a large undertaking involving cranes and lifts.

We acquire a full alignment system from a closing Mercedes-Benz dealership. This was a game-changer for our operation, and served as a gateway to other various equipment upgrades.

A new landmark sign is commissioned, doing homage to our late architect’s paradigm.

Our upstairs facilities are finally completed, along with installing a long-awaited spiral staircase in our lobby, which was par of the original design plan, but awaited a suitable stair system for the room, which took over 10 years to locate.

Along with acquiring a new halo-lit sign, our team discovers that our entry-way is the perfect COVID-19 safe-room during the pandemic, and offers safe contact-free services to our clientele, a process that was available prior to the pandemic as well, thanks to its unique design.

Workshop floors are prepped and refinished with a Stonhard epoxy floor system, a massive undertaking requiring emptying the service bays of all equipment.

Our team encountered a strong pattern of recommending road-force balancing. Due to the stature of vehicles that we service, and changes in industry standards; we added state-of-the art tire and balancing machines from Hunter Engineering to our equipment arsenal.

2024 — A multi-purpose Roadside Assistance pickup truck is added to our service spectrum, doubling as a facility maintenance utility vehicle.
